Cushing Street Poetry Series is finishing 2006 with a pair of young poets,
each with new books coming out. From
Tucson, Morgan Lucas Schuldt and from
Phoenix, Sarah Vap.
Morgan Lucas Schuldt is
the author of Verge (Parlor Press: Free Verse Editions, forthcoming
Fall 2007) and Otherhow (Kitchen Press, forthcoming Spring 2007), a
chapbook. A graduate from the
University of
Arizona’s MFA program, Morgan is also the editor of the
literary magazine, CUE: A Journal of Prose Poetry. His poems have
appeared in Verse, LIT, Chelsea, Pleiades,
POOL, and the Massachusetts Review, among others, and in the
anthologies Prose Poetry / Flash Fiction: An Anthology (Stacherone, 2006)
and The Bedside Guide to No Tell Motel, 2nd Floor (No Tell Books,
2007). He teaches in the English Department at the
University of
Arizona where he's ever so slowly pursuing his PhD in
English Literature.
Sarah Vap is the author of Dummy Fire (Winner of the 2006
Saturnalia Books Contest) and American Spikenard (Recipient of the
2006 Iowa Poetry Prize). Vap grew up in
Missoula,
Mont. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree in poetry
from
Arizona
State
University in 2005 and currently teaches creative writing at
Phoenix
College and in the
Phoenix public schools for ASU's Young Writers Program. Her work
has been published in Field, the Denver Quarterly, the
Colorado Review and
Natural
Bridge. She is currently a poetry editor for the online
journal 42opus.
