2009-2010

Saturday, November 21, 2009 - Myung Mi Kim and Barbara Henning - 7 PM, The Drawing Studio (map), 33 S. Sixth Avenue, Tucson. $5 admission, $3 students

Myung Mi KimMyung Mi Kim and her family emigrated to the United States following the Korean War, when Kim was 9 years old. She holds a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa and lectured for some years on creative writing at the San Francisco State University. She is currently Professor of English at the University at Buffalo.

"Myung Mi Kim is a model writer, one who actively and unapologetically thinks through and with the world in her poetry. Less interested in a turn of phrase or some impossible sublimity, her work seeks out the “live kicking wire” in the form of the project itself."

Barbara is Professor Emerita at Long Island University and presently teaching for Naropa University, as well as LIU and the University of Arizona in Tucson.

"Whether in prose or poetry, Barbara Henning's formal inventiveness has given her apparently autobiographical material a power never found in purely confessional writing. Her vision of an unreasonable world (our very own) is very intelligent, very intense, sometimes funny, always disturbing."
